The most experienced skipper on the county circuit could celebrate his tenth season in charge at Hove by leading Sussex to their third Championship. The expression 'leading from the front' was seemingly invented for the 36-year-old who would still command a place in the side even if he was not its captain. He should pass 1,000 Championship runs for the ninth time in his career and is is only two short of registering his 48th first-class hundred, having added three centuries this season including 193 against Durham at Horsham in July.
